Georgia seek extradition of mafia boss held in Greece

Lasha Shushanashvili
Georgia is seeking the extradition of a Georgian mafia boss being held in Greece who is also wanted in Spain and by Interpol, the Foreign Ministry said Monday.
“Georgia will demand extradition of (Lasha) Shushanashvili, because he was wanted by Georgian police,” Deputy Foreign Minister Nino Kalandadze said.
Shushanashvili, 51, was also wanted by Spain, which as a EU member, has priority in extradition rights, Kalandadze said, “Though this factor will not obstruct Georgia to demand extradition.”
“Our diplomatic missions are involved in the negotiations and we hope that our demand will be satisfied,” the official added.
Georgian diplomats in Athens confirmed the arrests of Shushanashvili and his Georgian bodyguard in Athens on Saturday for the alleged possession of firearms, ammunition and forged travel documents.
Shushanashvili had been sought by Interpol since 2009 on murder and money laundering charges in Austria, France, Germany, Italy and Spain.
